Patchouli Aromatherapy

Patchouli oil is one of the most popularly used essential oils for spiritual practices. In addition to spiritual practices, the oil can also be used for aromatherapy.

In this blog, I will discuss the effectiveness of patchouli oil in aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is a natural health treatment that uses oils extracted from plants, and is sometimes called essential oil treatment. It can be taken in various ways, the most common being inhalation and diffusion.

Patchouli oil can be used in aromatherapy through steam inhalation. Some patchouli oil is added to water in a vaporizer device or just a bowl of very hot water, and the steam is inhaled.

The correct dilution of the oil is important since unlike incense, candles and perfumes the patchouli steam is inhaled directly into your system.

It is also important to use steam inhalation of patchouli in a well-ventilated area and is used for long sessions you should take a break at least every 30 minutes to avoid headaches or nausea.

By the way, steam inhalation is not suitable for children or pets.

In aromatherapy an oil diffuser has a similar effect to incense but without the smoke.

Patchouli oil is added to water which can be heated to fill the room with fragrance, or there are other types of diffuser that use air pressure to diffuse the patchouli oil into the air.

Patchouli blends really well with some other fragrances in aromatherapy for the strongest effects, and is best blended with frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood, jasmine and cedarwood.

Patchouli as an essential oil has active chemicals that have therapeutic effects on the body and mind, and is ideal for use in aromatherapy.

Some of the medicinal properties of patchouli in aromatherapy are anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, deodorant, antiseptic and sedative.

In a diffuser it has been found to get rid of unpleasant smells in the environment, perhaps from cooking or household pets.

The sedative action of the fragrance releases the hormones serotonin and dopamine which improves moods and enhances relaxation, as well as a sense of pleasure and well-being.

It is also said to be an aphrodisiac, working by stimulating sensual energy and boosting libido. Used in a diffuser at night, in a well-ventilated room, patchouli can help with a restful sleep and improve your metabolism.

Used in a vaporizer and inhaled, scent receptors in the brain process the smell as grounding and emotionally balancing, allowing the mind and body to relax and calm down.

In a diffuser, three to four drops of patchouli oil can help reduce fevers and colds by acting on infectious bacteria and reducing body temperature.

During spiritual practices it can be diffused either on its own or in blends with other essential oils, and during prayer and meditation it will enhance concentration and enable a stronger mystical experience.

There are so many healing benefits associated with essential oils. Many people, however, use them purely for their scent, while others use them for their therapeutic properties.

Essential oils work well when used in tandem with steam inhalation.

Patchouli oil is mostly used in aromatherapy through steam inhalation.

Patchouli has a very unique and distinct aroma to it. It’s this scent that some people find unsettling. In particular, the aroma is so unique that it can be discouraging for people who are just getting started with trying essential oils. Some people find it to be repulsive.

However, it is important to note that the initial sense of the scent may be unpleasant, but after a while, people get used to it and begin to enjoy the sense of calm and relaxation it brings.

So, if you’re looking for something different in your aromatherapy journey, patchouli might be the answer.
